A password-protected directory is a folder which cannot be accessed unless the correct login credentials are offered. This could be an entire site or only a single page that's in a subfolder. If you try to open such a directory, you'll see a web browser pop-up where you must type a username and a password. In case you type the correct ones, you will be able to continue surfing around the content without having to do anything additional. When the login credentials are not accurate, however, you will see a message that you aren't authorized to look at the content. When this option is activated, you will not be able to open a file even though you may have a direct link. The function is very handy if you wish to prohibit the access to some content or if you work on a site and you do not want visitors to be able to access it prior to it being ready.
Password Protected Directories in Shared Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area will take just several clicks and a few seconds when you host your Internet sites in a shared hosting account with our company. You'll not need to do anything complicated - you will have to pick a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it has to be secured, and then to type the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. In case a number of people require their own login details, there won't be a problem to set up a variety of different usernames with access to the very same folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this feature is active. If you want to disable the security feature for any folder, you can deactivate it from the exact same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will be able to shield any content that you have uploaded using our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it is part of, so you'll not have to input any code at any time. You will only need to pick one of the domains/subdomains you have in the website hosting account and to select which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. After that you can type the username and the password, that'll be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you will be all set. The protection shall be activated right away, so anybody who tries to access the recently protected folder will have to type in the right login details. In case several individuals should be able to access exactly the same content, you could make a separate username for each one.
